Please choose one of the topic workshops you would like to attend

This workshop aims to support the development of participants’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in applying evidence-based research methods in pharmacy practice and health services research. PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and supervisors should be aware about the best and most updated information sources, methods and tools for study’ design, conduction and reporting to improve research quality, transparency, and replicability and allow evidence transposal to daily practice. This workshop will focus on the methods for performing and critically assessing narrative reviews, scoping reviews and systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

This workshop will provide an overview of important concepts in costing in healthcare and will discuss the state of art, challenges, and opportunities in pharmacoeconomics - a branch of health economics that usually focuses on balancing the costs and benefits of an intervention (including pharmacist-led services) towards the use of limited resources, aiming at maximizing value to patients, healthcare payers and society through data driven decision making.

This workshop will address the importance of evaluating related drugs use aspects and medication adherence, as well as quantifying their consequences in terms of morbidity and mortality especially in particularly critical and frail subpopulations (e.g., elderly, polytreated patients, complex socio-health conditions). Participants should further develop knowledge and skills in this area, including for the development, evaluation and implementation of interventions to improve patients’ clinical outcomes, reduce unnecessary costs and enhance quality of life.

Researchers need to communicate their research to a broad audience (i.e., scientific community, the public, funding organizations) through a wide range of channels, including scientific journals, conferences or social media. This workshop will enhance participants’ skills to articulate their research and inspire audiences. Moreover, key elements that should be considered when writing a scientific manuscript will be discussed, from different perspectives, including an editor’s, a reviewer’s and an author’s perspective. Participants will also work on additional channels such as Twitter or LinkedIn to effectively communicate their research.

This workshop will provide and discuss an international overview of the emerging issues and underpinning research providing evidence for the extension of the scope of practice for pharmacists including pharmacist prescribing and minor ailments. Participants will be exposed to the choice of research methodologies including designs and outcomes measures. Case studies will be analysed which will develop knowledge and competencies to assist in designing, implementing and evaluating research studies which can be practically applied by postdoctoral fellows and PhD. candidates to their own research.
