Organised by the FIP Academic Pharmacy Section in collaboration with the FIP Community Pharmacy Section Accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Chair(s) MSc Jorge Schlottke, Member, the FIP Community Pharmacy Section, Argentina, and Dr Naomi Steenhof, University of Toronto, Canada Introduction: This session explores how education and mentorship can fight clinical inertia and nurture proactivity. Clinical inertia, the failure to initiate or adjust therapy when clinically indicated, remains a persistent barrier to optimal patient outcomes. Overcoming this challenge requires more than technical knowledge; it demands strong therapeutic relationships, compassionate communication, and decision-making that addresses uncertainty. This session will examine how educational strategies can prepare future pharmacists to engage proactively with patients, foster trust, and navigate complex clinical scenarios. Through conceptual framing and interactive case discussions, participants will explore approaches that link decision-making to combating clinical inertia while promoting patient-centred care.
