Lunch break symposium supported by Haleon Chair(s) TBC Introduction: Demanding schedules, long hours, poor sleep, irregular meals, and less nutrient dense food choices - pharmacists see the consequences of modern life every day, in their patients and often in themselves. In this highly interactive, gamified symposium, delegates become detectives, following the clues modern life leaves behind to uncover the often-overlooked role of micronutrients on our health. Led by Rachele Pojednic, a leading expert in nutrition and healthy ageing, the session breaks down the science in a way that is clear, current, and directly relevant to pharmacy practice. The case opens with the everyday realities pharmacists recognise. Participants then examine the evidence behind hidden nutrient gaps, trace the trail to the cell to explore how micronutrients support foundational biological processes, and ultimately “solve the case” by reviewing the evidence for multivitamin supplementation. As some of the most accessible healthcare professionals, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to spot the everyday pressures that shape health and wellbeing — yet the impact of these pressures on nutritional status often goes unnoticed. Blending detective style storytelling, audience participation, and emerging science, this symposium equips pharmacists with practical insights into foundational health and the confidence to turn them into meaningful patient conversations. Programme:
13:00 – 13:15 Following the clues: The hidden impact of modern life
13:15 – 13:30 The breakthrough: Health starts at the cellular level
13:30 – 13:50 Solving the case: Examining the evidence for multivitamins
13:50 – 14:00 Closing and Q&A
Learning objectives: 1. Describe how modern lifestyle factors can contribute to micronutrient gaps. 2. Explain the role of essential micronutrients in supporting key cellular processes that underpin whole-body health. 3. Evaluate the evidence supporting multivitamin supplementation as a strategy to support whole-body health. Take home messages: 1. Modern life can create hidden nutritional challenges 2. Micronutrients support the cellular foundations of health 3. Pharmacists can play an important role in providing evidence-based guidance about multivitamin supplementation
