Introduction:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is profoundly reshaping models of pharmaceutical care worldwide, in keeping with the core theme of this year’s FIP congress: “One Health, One Pharmacy – Bridging science, practice and education.” To present to pharmacy colleagues around the world the achievements of China’s digital, AI-enabled pharmacy practice – rooted in the country’s own healthcare system and grounded in frontline clinical work – the Chinese Pharmacists Association has organised this dedicated parallel session. Centred on three core priorities – the practical impact of technology adoption, distinctively local practice, and the innovative energy of young pharmacists – the session offers a comprehensive view of how Chinese pharmacists are using AI tools to address real-world challenges in pharmaceutical care.
In step with the global trend towards digital transformation in pharmacy, and grounded in China’s own clinical practice, the session spans four key areas: outpatient pharmacy services, disease-specific management, specialty drug management, and humanistic pharmaceutical care. It showcases practical examples of innovation in which Chinese pharmacists use artificial intelligence to solve genuine challenges in everyday clinical work.
By highlighting China’s distinctive achievements in practice and the innovative energy of young pharmacists, the session demonstrates the leading role the Chinese Pharmacists Association plays in guiding pharmacists across the country through digital transformation and in strengthening frontline patient care. It offers a platform for exchange on digital pharmacy practice between China and the wider world, shares replicable and scalable AI-enabled pharmaceutical care solutions adapted to local needs, and invites colleagues worldwide to explore together new directions for the pharmacy profession in the age of intelligent technology.

Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this session, participants will gain a systematic understanding of the implementation system of artificial intelligence in domestic pharmaceutical care and achieve the following learning objectives:
1. Master the application scenarios and values of AI-enabled pharmaceutical technologies: Gain a comprehensive overview of China’s pioneering surgical pharmacy specialty, including its origin, integrated clinical-educational-research development system, talent training framework with FIP Seal award, and its growing global influence.
2. Understand the localized intelligent pharmaceutical practice system in China: Get familiar with AI-driven innovative pharmaceutical solutions tailored to China’s healthcare system and clinical needs. Grasp localized intelligent practice models in perioperative medication management, rare disease-specific medication care, primary and remote medication services, and multi-level medication therapy management, and distinguish the differentiated development paths of pharmaceutical digital transformation between China and other regions worldwide.
3. Clarify the integrated development direction of digital transformation in pharmaceutical care: Comprehend the in-depth integration model of intelligent technology with humanistic pharmaceutical care, refined clinical management, and equitable public healthcare. Master the innovative logic of technology-enabled pharmaceutical services and recognize the practical contributions and innovative role of young pharmacists in the digital transformation of the pharmacy profession.
4. Build international perspectives on digital pharmaceutical development: Leverage this Sino-foreign co-chaired international exchange platform to learn about global trends in pharmacy digital transformation, acquire replicable and scalable AI-enabled pharmaceutical care models, and broaden professional horizons for innovative pharmacy development in the intelligent technology era.
Take home messages:
Aligned with the global development philosophy of FIP and grounded in frontline clinical practice in China, this session focuses on AI-empowered innovation in pharmaceutical care. The core outcomes and key takeaways are summarized as follows:
1. AI technology empowers comprehensive refined upgrading of pharmaceutical care: Originating from China, surgical pharmacy is an innovative clinical specialty with complete mature theoretical and practical systems; its training programme with FIP Seal award provides a replicable standard model for global pharmacy practitioners to develop surgical pharmaceutical care.
2. Intelligent pharmaceutical care achieves balanced development of inclusiveness and specialty refinement: Breaking the geographical limitations of traditional pharmacy services, technology-driven borderless pharmaceutical care models effectively improve medication accessibility for residents in remote areas and vulnerable populations, promoting balanced allocation of medical resources. In the field of specialized care, an integrated technological and humanistic intelligent pharmaceutical stewardship system for hemophilia has been constructed, realizing precise and people-centered upgrading of rare disease pharmaceutical services.
3. China’s localized AI pharmaceutical practices feature high replicability and scalability: All innovative achievements presented in this session are rooted in China’s healthcare context and clinical pain points, covering four core dimensions: outpatient pharmacy services, disease-specific management, specialty drug management, and humanistic pharmaceutical care. The localized, adaptable, and scalable AI pharmaceutical service solutions provide valuable practical references for global pharmacy digital transformation.
4. Young pharmacists serve as a core driving force for pharmaceutical digital innovation: Based on frontline clinical experience, young Chinese pharmacists continuously explore innovative integration of AI technology and pharmaceutical services, driving technological implementation, scenario iteration, and service upgrading, and acting as a key workforce for the digital and intelligent transformation of the domestic pharmacy industry.
5. Sino-foreign exchanges advance collaborative global development of pharmacy: This session builds an international platform for exchanging digital pharmaceutical practices, practicing the FIP core theme of “One Health, One Pharmacy”. By sharing China’s innovative practical experiences, it facilitates mutual learning of global intelligent pharmaceutical technologies and service models, and promotes joint exploration of new development directions for the pharmacy profession in the intelligent era.
