Introduction:
In many jurisdictions, pharmacists have been called upon to act as vaccinators, joining public health efforts by helping expand access to immunization. This session will explore resources highlighting fragmented approaches on immunisation programmes across the globe as well as successful practices to support the implementation of pharmacy-based vaccination (PBV) and its impact within certain disease areas among adult populations. A dynamic panel will follow, bringing together international perspectives and local insights from healthcare system realities in Québec, Canada.
Programme:
To follow
Learning objectives:
1. To share practical information on pharmacy-based vaccination (PBV) and present best practices from various regions of the world to empower pharmacists and remove barriers.
2. To discuss concrete measures – from education, incentive models, data systems and national campaigns – that can drive vaccine uptake and improve public health outcomes.
3. To better understand the local PBV environment in Quebec and stimulate thinking on how this could inspire other jurisdictions in Canada and beyond.
Take home messages:
Policy-makers in many parts of the world recognize the role that pharmacists play in public health, including in immunisation strategies. However, this recognition must come alongside enabling conditions for services to deliver the best possible outcomes for healthcare systems and communities.
