It highlights new policy measures that strengthen ward pharmacy services and addresses the growing challenge of pharmacist shortages. The session also outlines JSHP’s leadership in advancing safer, higher quality patient care across Japan.
PSWE-0303 – Activities and perspectives of APSTJ in advancing pharmaceutical science and technology in Japan
This presentation provides an overview of APSTJ’s activities in Japan, with a focus on its role in fostering a scientific network among academia, pharmacists, and industry researchers in the fields of drug delivery systems, formulation design, particle design, and pharmaceutical nanotechnology. Professor Ozeki will also discuss how APSTJ supports innovation and human resource development in pharmaceutical science and technology, while highlighting its international engagement through paediatric formulation consortium activities and Asian scientific networks such as AFPS.
PSWE-0304 – Pharmacy education in Japan: Integration of science and practice
Pharmacy education in Japan has been developed over the past 20 years in response to changes in social and medical needs. The introduction of the six-year pharmacy education program aims to cultivate healthcare professionals who integrate clinical skills and professional responsibility based on scientific knowledge. A key feature of this program is the “Model Core Curriculum.” revised in 2022 to introduce a learning outcomes- and competency-based educational framework. This shift aims to move beyond mere knowledge acquisition toward an educational approach that comprehensively develops the ability to engage in lifelong learning after graduation, problem-identification and -solving skills, and clinical practice competencies.
Another distinctive feature of pharmaceutical education in Japan is its emphasis not only on clinical training but also on research activity and basic science. This approach aims to foster professionals who can respond effectively to the evolving healthcare environment by integrating scientific understanding and clinical skills through initiatives such as interprofessional education.
