Eckel, ExCo member FIP Hospital Pharmacy Section, Basel Statement Promotion Committee, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, USA & Dr Michael Stepanovic, ExCo member FIP Hospital Pharmacy Section, Basel Statement Promotion Committee, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, USA Introduction: This interactive session will focus on the ongoing development of minimum standards for optimal medicines use in hospital pharmacy, a key initiative led by the FIP Hospital Pharmacy Section. These standards aim to define the essential functions and personnel required in every hospital pharmacy, regardless of resource setting, and will serve as a companion document to the FIP Basel Statements. The session will begin with an introduction to the Basel Statements, the rationale for this initiative, and an update on project progress. Participants will then engage in two interactive workshops to refine draft minimum standards and develop educational guides to support their implementation. The event will conclude with a Q&A discussion to gather additional feedback and foster global collaboration This session will be organized by the Basel Statement Promotion Committee of the Hospital Pharmacy Section which includes Stephen Eckel, Michael Stepanovic, Jonathan Penm, Rob Moss, Marianne Ivy, Josep M Guiu, and Emmanuel Obiri-Bakai. 09:30 – 11:30 Workshop 1: Refining the minimum standards for optimal medicines use
Participants will review and refine draft Minimum Standards, making modifications, additions, or deletions based on their regional practice experience.
11:30 – 11:45 Coffee break
11:45 – 12:45 Workshop 2: Development of educational guides for implementation
Participants will engage in discussions to identify key areas of knowledge needed to educate pharmacy students and hospital pharmacists on implementing the FIP Basel Statements and the minimum standards. We will further develop an understanding of the core competencies and training tools required to ensure hospital pharmacists are equipped to meet and sustain these standards in various practice settings.
