Chair(s) Prof. Don Mager, FIP Bureau Member USA & Dr Rob Moss, FIP Bureau Member, Netherlands Introduction: Scientific advancements in pharmaceutical development are reshaping chronic disease care, particularly in areas such as type 1 diabetes and obesity. This session will explore how innovative treatments and technologies — from novel insulins and glucose monitoring to GLP-1 therapies and digital tools — can be leveraged to improve patient outcomes. It will also examine the expanded role of pharmacists in delivering accessible, patient-centred care. Through expert insights and panel discussion, the session will highlight the importance of equity, education, and integrated care models in advancing pharmaceutical development for global health access. Programme:

Learning objectives: 1. Describe recent innovations in the treatment and management of type 1 diabetes, including new therapeutics, technologies, and care models. 2. Discuss the evolving role of community pharmacies in obesity care, especially in supporting patients using GLP-1 therapies. 3. Identify challenges and strategies for improving equitable access to pharmaceutical innovations across diverse populations. 4. Explore how pharmacists can act as integrated care navigators in chronic disease management and contribute to personalised, patient-centred care. Take home messages: - Innovations in diabetes and obesity care must be matched by meaningful patient engagement, education, and access strategies. - Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to support patients on complex treatment journeys, especially through personalised services and digital integration.
