1. As Health Care Professionals, there are ways to enhance pain treatment with young patients:
- Examples of behavioral signs and available assessment tools to help identify pain
- Examples of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
2. Other ways Pharmacists can help to achieve better pain treatment, especially at the Pharmacy landscape.
Take home messages:
• Pain in children is often underdiagnosed and undertreated.
• Pain matters, as untreated pain has adverse consequences.
• Children have the right to receive appropriate pain relief. A multi-modal approach, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, is effective.
• Assessing pain requires your specialist skills as an HCP; Infants and Kids need advocates, and Pharmacists have a key role to play to enhance pain treatment.
